Bishop Martyn's Big Conversation in Rothley 29 Nov to 2 Dec 2018

Bishop Martyn, our diocesan bishop, visited Rothley from 29th November to 2nd December 2018 to discuss what the Christian faith is all about with lots of different people in a wide variety of contexts. A summary of the programme is provided below, and to view photos photos from the weekend's events please visit the Big Conversation photo gallery page.

Thursday 29th November 2018

Bishop Martyn switched on the village Christmas lights on Cross Green, which was followed by fireworks and Rothley Primary Academy choir. Bishop Martyn then took a stroll in Woodgate and visited the Scout Hut and Rothey Baptist Church.

Friday 30th November 2018

In the morning Bishop Martyn met parents on the playground at Rothley Primary Academy, spoke at School Assembly, and took “Big Questions” sessions with pupils in their classes. He also met with school staff at breaktime and planted a tree to commemorate the Bishop’s Big Conversation in Rothley.

In the afternoon, Bishop Martyn hosted a "Drop in" in the Old School Rooms where people could ask questions over coffee, tea and cake. At dinner time, Bishop Martyn and team visited the Time & Plaice for a question and answer session with teenagers and their friends,

In the evening, there was a “Text a Question” session with Bishop Martyn in The Woodies.  

Saturday 1st December 2018

Bishop Martyn spoke at a Men’s Breakfast in the Old School Rooms and answered questions. Later, Bishop Martyn walked around the village with a coffee break en route!

In the afternoon, there was a “Drop in” at Babington Court for question and answer session with Bishop Martyn and team over tea and cake. This was followed by a Pudding Evening in the Old School Rooms with more questions to Bishop Martyn and team, as well as Rothley Handbell Ringers, a quiz and a huge variety of puddings!

Sunday 2nd December

Bishop Martyn and team spoke at the 9.00am and 10.30am church services. MP3 audio recordings are available for Bishop Martyn's children's talk (download) and sermon (download), they can also be streamed online from the Sermons MP3 page.
