Prayer and Pastoral

Prayer Circle

The Prayer Circle is a group of church members who pray for situations made known to them and for those in need. It provides immediate, fast and confidential prayer support for anyone in times of particular stress or specific need. If you, or someone you know, would like someone to pray for you, contact  Valerie Joyce, or Jean Arkley or email the church office. The Prayer Circle will pray for one week unless otherwise requested.

Pastoral Care

We are committed to being responsible for the care of all who are members of the church family and to reach out to those in need in our community. Pastoral Care operates within an explicit policy of corporate confidentiality. Where appropriate, confidential information is shared between those with pastoral care responsibilities.

The pastoral care team consists of the Ministry Team, Jean Arkley (Pastoral Care Co-ordinator), and trusted individuals. Pastoral care provision is monitored monthly by the clergy. The pastoral ministry may be briefly summarised as the following activities:

  • regular home and Residential Home visits
  • hospital visits
  • home communion visits
  • crisis visits and practical support
  • prayer support via the Prayer Circle
  • bereavement support by the Bethany Group
  • small groups networking to provide care and support (Mothers Union; Wednesday lunches; the Little Fishes Toddler group; and Housegroups)
  • welcoming ministry & care of newcomers to the church

The Clergy and pastoral care team share in the visiting of the sick in home & hospital, the housebound, the lonely, the bereaved and anyone in general need of a confidential listening ear and prayer. If you would like a pastoral visit, or know someone who needs one, please contact Jean Arkley c/o the church office, telephone 0116 230 2626 or email the church office.

The clergy also bring Communion to those in need at home or in a Residential Home. If you, or someone you know, has such a need, please contact the Vicar, Rob Gladstone, on 0116 230 2241 or email the church office

If you, or someone you know, has a crisis or is in urgent need please phone the vicar, Rob Gladstone on 0116 230 2241.

Bethany Group

This group provides bereavement support subsequent to the funeral ministry of Rothley church. Care is also offered to those where funerals have occurred elsewhere; generally its uptake is within the church family. The yearly Memorial Service (welcoming many from our community) focuses on thanksgiving and remembrance of loved ones, within the context of Christ’s love, hope and care. It is greatly appreciated, and provides a very tangible demonstration of our fellowship’s concern for those who have been bereaved.
